Unifying Source and Center of Christian Living
The Eucharist is the source of life giving bread and it lies at the heart of the mystery of the Church. Through the Eucharist we are fed, nourished and enlightened. Through transubstantiation—the changing of bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ—the Eucharist is a mystery which surpasses our understanding and can only be received in faith.
In this diocese the “restored order” of the sacraments of initiation is observed, thus children are confirmed in the third grade and receive their First Communion at the same Mass. Preparation for these two sacraments is an integral part of the youth catechetical program. Parental participation is also an essential element in helping their child to worthily receive these sacraments.
Instruction and materials are provided for parents to aid them in fulfilling this responsibility.
Interviews with the child will take place before the child receives the sacraments.
